As the business world continues to evolve, earning a baseline education just isn’t good enough anymore. Even business leaders who have earned MBAs or other specialized master’s degrees could be left unprepared if they’ve been out of the educational sphere for too long.

That’s where the Daniel-Mickel Center for Executive Development at the Darla Moore School of Business is here to help — you as an individual or as part of a team within your organization can take a range of classes to develop skills such as business analytics, negotiations, finance, presentation skills and several others.

“We prioritize the design of learning in our classes, and we get great feedback on how our courses are structured and the benefits they’ve given our clients,” said Ray Smith, associate dean for executive development.

The Moore School has been educating managers, leaders and executives through the executive development center for nearly 60 years. Executive development courses are offered in custom and open program formats, allowing individuals or teams to take a set of classes toward building a certain skillset or single classes to simply refresh their expertise in a specific area.

“Business leaders who take our classes really enjoy the format — they could go through a program with only members of their organizations, or they can complete courses with people from all sorts of other industries, which allows for fresh perspectives and networking opportunities,” Smith said.

Being an Effective Leader, a core class for the Certificate in Leadership Excellence in which individuals’ leadership strengths are developed and a personalized plan for growth is created for each participant, is being offered later in March and again in October.

The new Business Analytics Portfolio — a set of four classes covering data analysis using Excel, Microsoft Power BI and R — is being offered in the beginning of April. Finance for the Non-Financial Manager, a three-day course to help those who are not trained in finance speak the language of financial managers, is also being offered in the beginning of April.
