STRIVE Program for Veteran Entrepreneurs

UofSC serves our South Carolina veterans in partnership with Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families.

Syracuse University’s IVMF brings to the Columbia campus its STRIVE program for veteran entrepreneurs in partnership with the Faber Entrepreneurship Center at the Darla Moore School of Business. IVMF entrepreneur programs have trained over 80,000 veterans by leveraging the skills, resources, and infrastructure of higher education institutions. STRIVE is a deep dive into the ways and means of starting your business.

Led by entrepreneurship instructors Dr. Kasie Whitener and Dr. Jeff Savage, the UofSC STRIVE program helps South Carolina veteran business owners achieve the following learning outcomes:

  • Identify your target customers
  • Learn to complete the 3 basic types of research
  • Adopt an iterative Proceed, Pivot, or Punt approach to all stages of development
  • Use the tools necessary to determine the business and economic model that best serves you and your company
  • Learn how to rise above the noise through targeting marketing
  • Create proforma financials
  • Understand the basics of company financial controls
  • Create a pitch presentation
