MHR alumna finds commitment to diversity in program

With a background in sociology and customer service, Master of Human Resources (MHR) alumna Christian Nunnley had a good foundation going into the program, but she knew she needed to gain that business mindset to jumpstart her HR career.

“HR was a complete career change, but the Moore School faculty and staff are so well-rounded in the business industry and knowledgeable about the HR function,” she said. “More importantly, they were heavily invested in my personal success and growth.”

In addition to learning the basics of the field, Christian got to interact with several top executives from Fortune 500 companies on a regular basis throughout the program. Being able to meet and talk with African American professionals in her field was a game-changer for her.

“Unfortunately, there aren’t very many minorities represented in top leadership positions,” she said. “I really enjoyed how committed the MHR program is to bringing in diverse executives. Those speakers were the most inspirational in sharing knowledge on how to break barriers and become a successful young black professional in the HR field.”

After graduating in December 2018, Christian joined Eaton Corporation’s leadership development program as an HR generalist in their Vehicle Division in Athens, Georgia.
