MAEcon student uses teamwork skills both in class and as student athlete

Carson Strom (B.S. ’18), MAEcon candidate

As a lifelong Gamecock fan, Master of Arts in Economics (MAEcon) candidate Carson Strom (B.S. ’18) always knew he wanted to come to the University of South Carolina for school.

“The Moore School is one of the best business schools in the country, so that made my decision even easier,” he said. “I chose the MAEcon program to further expand my business knowledge and learn more about the global economy and how it affects the financial markets.”

As a track and field student athlete, Carson had that much more to balance while majoring in accounting and finance in undergrad.

“Being a student athlete teaches you to be very good at time management,” he said. “There were many times when I was doing homework and studying while we were on the road. Thankfully, my professors were always understanding when I had to miss class because of competitions.”

In addition to time management, Carson values the group collaboration skills he’s gained during his time at the Moore School.

“Especially in the MAEcon program, we work a lot in teams, and I have learned so much from working on projects with my fellow students,” he said.

After graduating in May 2019, Carson plans to launch his career as an investment professional with a role as a financial analyst or advisor and by earning his CFP or CFA.
