Samantha McFadden, Master of Human Resources candidate
Why did you choose the MHR program at the Moore School?
The faculty at the Darla Moore School of Business are some of the best thought leaders
in the human resources field. They challenge students at every opportunity to stretch
and grow our understanding of business and management. The Moore School's state-of-the-art
facilities along with the unparalleled faculty ensure a solid academic experience,
which will provide a long-lasting impact on my career.
What has been the most influential thing you've learned in your program?
I've learned how to anticipate problems and shape projects by challenging the status-quo,
leading and adapting to change by taking and managing risks.
Where was your internship?
New Brunswick, New Jersey, with Johnson & Johnson
What were you doing day-to-day?
I was an HR business partner for the Global Medical Devices Quality and Compliance
organization where I was supporting 6,000 employees worldwide through a time of significant
change as the enterprise shifts from a decentralized model to a more collaborative
organizational design.
What is the most important thing you learned?
I worked to empower people to act with agility and accountability, forging internal
collaboration networks to drive insights and uncover unmet needs.
Would you recommend this internship/company to other MHR students?Working at J&J means you are joining a global ecosystem that touches a billion lives a year with 120,000+ talented and dedicated employees all focused on working toward that bigger purpose in creating a healthier and happier world. As part of an Experienced HR Leadership Development Program (E-HRDLP), I was surrounded by an exceptionally talented and inspiring group of leaders who all played key roles in accelerating my personal and professional development.
Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
I was offered a full-time position in the E-HRLDP after I graduate in December, so
I see myself working at J&J supporting enterprise initiatives aimed at developing
innovative solutions to transform the health care landscape. I’d like to get to the
director level, where I can energize employees to carry out our global mission: to
mobilize our efforts to profoundly change the trajectory of health for humanity.
Is there anything else you'd like to mention?
The E-HRLDP is a distinguished internship that requires five or more years of diverse
work experience.
