The Social Media Insights Lab continues to analyze COVID-19 buzz and finds that President Donald Trump’s announcement that more than 200,000 Americans may die from the coronavirus has had a sobering effect on social media conversations in South Carolina.
“We’ve tracked a definite shift in the last few days,” said Insights Lab manager Kaitlyn Park. “Where we previously saw South Carolinians sharing messages of hope, we now are seeing more posts that reflect sadness for the lives that have been and could be lost.”
Users are expressing concern about the loneliness of those isolated in the hospital, the difficult decisions that have to be made after a coronavirus death and a general feeling of hopelessness about the ability to fight the pandemic.
The Insights Lab analyzed nearly 1,800 posts for this analysis. The Lab has been tracking conversations about the #coronavirus since March 11 and issuing periodic reports.
