    Alumni Spotlight

Landing a job in New York City is a dream for many students and a dream-come-true for class of 2021 advertising alumna Lara Zwiebel.

So you watch the Super Bowl for the commercials? Then we want you. And you relish the idea of working all night with dozens of super-creative types on a campaign to make the world a better place? Yes, you're our kind. Our advertising program is home to the most talented, innovative thinkers in the industry. And we turn out top talent every day.

Our graduates work at some of the nation's top firms, including the Richards Group in Dallas, R/GA in Los Angeles, BBDO in Atlanta and Endeavor in New York City. They also open their own firms, here in South Carolina and around the world. Gamecocks are the copywriters, designers, art directors, account managers and media planners behind top work that is produced around the Palmetto State and beyond. It's a terrific network to be part of.  Let us introduce you to some of our recent graduates.

As one of our advertising students, you'll tailor your education to match your career goals, choosing from dozens of specialized classes to spark your imagination. You’ll also have fun exploring opportunities to participate in the yearly Super Bowl ad competition or an all-night CreateAthon@USC to benefit local non-profit organizations. Learn more about the classes you will take as an advertising student in the university's academic bulletin.

We form fierce Ad Teams that take on the prestigious National Student Advertising Competition and Washington Media Scholars Competition. These teams have gone on to take honors at many of these competitions since 1975.

Capstone Experiences Lead to Awesome Awards

Seniors cap off their school years like Mad Men (and women!), working in ad agencies to develop and create print and digital ads for national clients. We also form fierce ad teams that challenge traditional thinking and pour so much energy and creativity into campaigns that it's easy to see how they take top national honors.

Our internship program gives you hands-on experience honing your persuasive writing skills, identifying the right audience for your message and creatively adjusting the tone, copy and graphics for the kind of medium you're using. It also gives you class credit while helping build your portfolio and industry connections.

Certifications and Advanced Study

It is not a secret that the advertising industry loves to hire graduates with the right certifications. Many of our courses incorporate a variety of certificates from Google and Microsoft to The Trade Desk and beyond. You will graduate with certifications that show dedication and help your resume rise to the top. Challenge yourself to achieve even more badges through independent studies and elective courses. Not sure which certifications are right for you? No problem! Our faculty is well versed in this area and can guide you in the right direction.

The advertising curriculum not only prepares you for the industry, but is a strong foundation for graduate study.  You can further refine your skills and understanding of mass communications by starting graduate coursework through the Accelerated Master of Mass Communication program.  By choosing a specialization in either strategic communications management or multimedia journalism, you can complete two degrees in as little as five years.

And these are just some of the many opportunities for our students.
