Research

The BVIPD Project employs a mixed method design to collect data from Southeastern Conference (SEC) institutions, with the University of South Carolina acting as the pilot study.

For qualitative methods, the team is conducting interviews with DSO staff, academic librarians responsible for BVIPD students, and with BVIPD students themselves. For quantitative methods, the team is using survey-questionnaires to collect data from instructors that have had BVIPD students in their classes the last three (3) years.

The study participants are selected using self-selected sampling (BVIPD students and instructors) and expert sampling (DSO staff and academic librarians) methods. In the data collection phase of the project, the research team is using audio recordings or alternative formats that meet the convenience of BVIPD students. For DSO staff and academic librarians, the interviews are being conducted face-to-face or through virtual platforms like Zoom. Qualtrics is used for instructor surveys.
