The six required core courses are:

  • Community Engagement and Services
  • Reference and Instruction
  • Leadership in Information Organizations
  • Research Design and Evaluation
  • Information Organization and Access

Some possible class elective topics include storytelling, children’s literature, diversity in libraries, digital archives, academic libraries and planning library facilities. Students also can take electives in other UofSC departments or other institutions with the approval of their advisor.

Students also build an electronic portfolio that includes a resume, vision statement and work samples that express expertise in the program’s six competency areas:

  • Information and its organization
  • Provision of information services
  • Leadership and management
  • Research
  • Technology
  • Professional development and lifelong learning.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
