What is the Media Innovation Academy?

When is the Media Innovation Academy?

Media Innovation Academy courses will be offered at USC May 30-June 16, 2023.

When are classes scheduled?

Students will take two face-to-face classes. The commitment is for full-day participation from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Because the Media Innovation Academy is a complete program, the schedule changes some days for special programs such as guest speakers. There also are some program opportunities on Fridays, such as visits to professionals. 

Who can attend the Media Innovation Academy?

Any enrolled undergraduate from any college or university can attend the Media Innovation Academy.

Who offers the Media Innovation Academy?

The Media Innovation Academy is a program of the College of Information and Communications at the University of South Carolina. CIC students are welcome to attend the academy as are enrolled undergraduates from any major at any college or university.

Can students from outside USC attend the Media Innovation Academy?

Yes. However, there is paperwork involved. If you wish to attend, please contact program coordinator Nina Brook.

Do students earn credit at the Media Innovation Academy?

Media Innovation Academy courses are three-hour elective courses in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at USC. Students should speak with their regular academic advisors to see how the courses fit with their individual program. Students from outside USC may be able to earn academic credit, but that will be up to the student’s home institution. Students from outside of USC, please contact Media Innovation Academy coordinator Nina Brook.

I already graduated. Can I attend the Media Innovation Academy?

Yes. However, there is paperwork involved. If you wish to attend, please contact program coordinator Nina Brook.

Is the Media Innovation Academy for professionals?

The Media Innovation Academy is designed as an experience for enrolled undergraduate students. Professionals can attend. They must be admitted to USC as transient students and pay tuition. If you are a professional interested in attending on this basis, there is paperwork involved and it takes some time to complete. If you wish to attend, please contact program coordinator Nina Brook.

What is the cost of the Media Innovation Academy?

Students pay regular tuition for Media Innovation Academy courses. Please see the university’s tuition and fee information.

Can I attend the Media Innovation Academy on a not-for-credit basis?

Yes. However, all Media Innovation Academy students must be enrolled at USC. Students who do not attend USC already must be admitted as transients. There are no exceptions to this policy. If you are interested in attending on this basis, please contact program coordinator Nina Brook.

Is housing available for the Media Innovation Academy?

Limited on-campus housing is available. If you think you will want on-campus housing, please contact program coordinator Nina Brook.

How do I sign up for the Media Innovation Academy?

USC students may register for classes at their normal summer registration time. Please speak with your academic advisor about how the classes will fit into your program and about summer registration. If you do not currently attend USC, please contact program coordinator Nina Brook.
