College of Information and Communications

Initiatives

At the College of Information and Communications, we strive to provide one-of-a-kind student opportunities to ensure that our graduates are prepared for the ever-evolving data and media landscapes. We work to foster the sort of cutting-edge research that influences how our industries grow — and how the world sees them. And, we seek solutions to society’s most critical issues through education and innovation. Learn how we’re doing this by exploring our initiatives below.

Biometrics and User Experience Lab

Biometrics and User Experience Lab

Housed in Davis College, the Biometrics and User Experience Lab is a multi-purpose research facility that uses cutting-edge sensors to track facial expressions, eye movement, sweat gland stimulation and neuro-electrical activity. The newly opened lab is already broadening the scope — and impact —of the CIC’s faculty and student research.

Digital Media Experience

Digital Media Experience

Aspiring video storytellers from diverse backgrounds are invited to apply for the CIC’s Digital Media Experience. Here, participants will prepare for careers in digital media through this immersive, week-long program in USC’s state-of-the-art School of Journalism and Mass Communications. They’ll learn the principles and techniques of video storytelling using cell phones, professional editing software and their imagination. They’ll also gain hands-on experience and expert training from faculty and industry professionals.

Media Innovation Academy

Media Innovation Academy

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications Media Innovation Academy is an immersive summer experience with the look and feel of a professional conference. You’ll gain marketable 21st century skills that top media and innovation employers seek, so you’ll stand out in today’s competitive job market.

Social Media Insights Lab

Social Media Insights Lab

Powered by professional-grade software, the Social Media Insights Lab allows faculty and students to make sense of social data. Here, we explore how political candidates are resonating with the public, what people actually think about brands or products, or what online conversations can reveal about human behavior.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
