Carolina News & Reporter multimedia students won 10 awards in the 2020 South Carolina Press Association collegiate competition. The students took the Senior Semester capstone course in the spring or fall of 2020. They will be formally recognized at the SCPA Annual Meeting in the fall.
“These Senior Semester students pour their energies into a 9-5 daily newsroom and it is wonderful to see their work recognized,” said Carolyn Click, the multimedia instructor in the journalism capstone program. “They are young working journalists and go beyond the university campus to cover legislative issues, news around the Midlands and features.”
She added: “Even if not all of the students become award winners, they leave the journalism school ready to work in newsrooms and in digital and broadcast organizations. They are committed to doing the kind of journalistic work that keeps our democracy strong.”
