Associate professor Van Kornegay's Multimedia for Visual Communications class participated in the 2024 Monster Mash competition. Students were tasked with "persuading faculty and staff to get their ghoul on."
The students created 16 ghosts, monsters, witches, and an assortment of other Halloween characters using their skills in studio lighting, art direction, makeup, compositing and simple animation.
All the characters were displayed on the SJMC’s in-house screens and social media accounts, and students and alumni voted on their favorite "ghoul in the school” in an online poll.
There were 431 votes cast, and the results were very close. See the winners:
“Coraline,” featuring vis com faculty member Tara Mortensen and created by Madeline Caesarz and Joycelyn Leach, came in first with 62 votes.
“Uncle Fester,” featuring vis com faculty member Jason Porter and created by Savannah Nagy and Taylor Kitchens, came in second with 56 votes.
“The Mummy,” featuring studio operations manager and instructor Britt Hogg and created by Caroline Edwards and Abby Robisch, came in third with 54 votes.
