MIB alumna applies business analytics skills to earn DoorDash promotion

Master of International Business alumna Preksha Jain (’19 MIB) credits the analytical problem-solving skills she gained in the MIB program with helping her excel in her positions with DoorDash, the U.S.’s largest food delivery company.

Jain began working for DoorDash in 2019 as their merchant strategy & operations manager and was promoted in February 2021 to the new verticals manager, both out of the Atlanta office.

Originally from Delhi, India, Jain chose to come to the U.S. and the Moore School for her graduate degree because of the Moore School’s reputation and what she expected to get out of the program.

“Apart from the excellent international business program and internationally recognized faculty, the Moore School offers highly customizable programs and provides an ecosystem for international immersion along with a great 5-year return on investment,” Jain said. “I selected the Master of International Business program to acquire skillsets to solve transnational business problems in the era of globalization. I chose this program to get hands-on experience of working in a multilingual and culturally diverse business community.”

Jain attributes acquiring in the MIB program a transnational mindset, which she says helped her understand the role of culture and geopolitics on economies and businesses.

“The transnational mindset has enhanced my ability to connect and build good relationships with a culturally diverse workforce at [DoorDash],” she said. “It also helps me in day-to-day decision-making activities like identifying the right product market fit based on the market’s geography, demographics, culture, etcetera.”

In strategy operations and quality for her first two years with DoorDash, Jain said she works with cross-functional teams like product, analytics, support and account management to improve current processes and products. She also strategizes with merchants who use the online food delivery service to solve operational challenges and improve their in-store operations with the help of technology.

“The analytical problem-solving skills that I acquired in the Master of International Business has really helped me to excel at DoorDash,” she said. “I am able to identify problems easily and early by parsing through data using SQL, Tableau [and other business analytics software]. The ability to analyze data has also enhanced my decision-making skills.”

Jain said she sees herself moving into a more managerial role with a future organization leading its overall strategy and improving its profitability.
