Seven  students from the broadcast journalism capstone course Carolina News were honored by the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas with top awards in several categories.  The awards were presented during a luncheon at The Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Nov. 9.

Elizabeth Martinez, who graduated in May 2024 and is now a multimedia content producer for Spectrum News in Greenville, South Carolina, was named the Haney Howell Student Journalist of the Year. Watch her anchor reel»

"It became very apparent early in the semester that Elizabeth loved reporting," says Rick Peterson. "She always wanted to cover the big story of the day. She is very versatile, as she can produce serious and light stories equally well."
