College offers global dual master’s degree opportunity

The College of Information and Communications is expanding global learning opportunities through an innovative dual master’s degree program with National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan. This partnership reflects CIC’s commitment to preparing students for leadership in an increasingly interconnected communications landscape.

National Chengchi University (NCCU) was founded in 1927.

Through the dual master’s degree program, students earn two distinct graduate degrees, one from each institution, while gaining immersive international experience. Participants receive a Master of Arts from NCCU and either a Master of Mass Communications or Master of Arts from USC, with each university awarding its own degree based on completed requirements.

CIC currently has two students in the program: Yi Yi “Lillian” Li, who is pursuing an MA, and Kuan Yung “Lolita” Shui, who is working toward her MMC. Since the program began in 2021, nine students have participated.

Designed to strengthen expertise in international and strategic communications, the program allows students to study across cultures, academic systems and global media environments. By learning alongside international peers and faculty, students develop cross-cultural competencies that are essential for careers in global media, public relations and strategic communication roles.

“This dual degree program represents more than an academic collaboration — it’s a transformative student experience,” said CIC Dean Tom Reichert. “Students gain global perspective, advanced communication skills and a competitive advantage in the international job market.”

The partnership with NCCU, a leading institution in communication studies in Asia, further positions the College of Information and Communications as a hub for globally engaged education. The program also supports USC’s broader mission to foster international partnerships that enhance research, teaching and student outcomes.

By offering pathways that combine academic rigor with global immersion, CIC continues to demonstrate innovative approaches to enhancing student opportunities, ensuring graduates are prepared to communicate, lead and succeed on a global stage.
