If you’re looking for a career in teaching and research at the highest levels, or research and management with mass media companies, consider our Ph.D. program. Our program is small and selective, giving students substantial flexibility to tailor their coursework and area of study to their particular career goals. Our Ph.D. students are chosen after careful consideration of their background, academic record, experience and, particularly, their proposal. Most applicants have at least a year, and often much more, professional experience.
Our students must have completed or be in the final stages of earning a master’s degree. It doesn’t have to be in journalism or mass communications, although if not, additional coursework might be required.
Our students take a total of 57 hours — 45 hours of coursework and a minimum of 12 dissertation hours.
