June 2018 - The College of Education named Angela Adams as the new lead coach in the Carolina Teacher Induction Program (CarolinaTIP). She will provide coaching and support to induction teachers and serve on the CarolinaTIP leadership and development team as well as the advisory board.

CarolinaTIP is aimed at increasing teacher retention and success in the classroom by providing three additional years of support to new teachers after they graduate from the University of South Carolina.

I am excited to become a ‘teacher of teachers’ and help to shape new education graduates. My goal is to help new teachers find the energy and joy that teaching has always brought me.

Adams comes to Carolina from Richland School District One where she spent two years as an eighth grade science teacher at Crayton Middle School. She also taught sixth grade for eight years in the Berkeley County School District and before that, she spent 10 years as a teacher at Gettys Middle School in Pickens County.

She is a former Berkeley County District Teacher of the Year, where she led one of South Carolina’s oldest and most successful Teacher Forums representing more than 2,000 teachers. She has presented at the South Carolina Science Council Conference, the South Carolina Association for Middle Level Education Conference, the South Carolina Governor’s School for Excellence in Teaching, the South Carolina Teacher Forum Conference put on by CERRA for district teachers of the year, and various district-level instructional fairs.

Adams’ affinity for creating and presenting professional development sessions for teachers and her enthusiasm for classroom teaching has led her to the CarolinaTIP program. 

“Teachers get to inform children’s minds and help them determine the things they will always believe about themselves," says Adams. "This is an awesome responsibility and one that I have taken very seriously during my twenty years in the classroom. I am excited to become a ‘teacher of teachers’ and help to shape new education graduates. My goal is to help new teachers find the energy and joy that teaching has always brought me so that they are productive, effective and long-lasting members of what I believe to be the greatest profession there is.”

Adams holds a bachelor’s and master's degree with certification in elementary and middle level education. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher.
