If you are considering the add-on certification in ESOL, you might be interested in the 100 percent online M.Ed. in Language and Literacy, or the 100 percent online M.Ed. in Teaching with a specialization in English for Speakers of Other Languages.
In order to gain add-on certification for ESOL, in addition to completing the above coursework with a grade of C or better, teachers must have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher;
- Initial or Professional certificate at the early childhood, elementary, middle, secondary, or PK–12 level;
- Minimum qualifying score(s) on the content area examination(s) required by the South Carolina Department of Education.
Add-on certification is determined and granted by the South Carolina Department of Education. Prior to beginning coursework, it is recommended that teachers contact the South Carolina Department of Education to determine steps to add-on certification areas. Refer to the South Carolina Guidelines and Requirements for Adding Certification Fields and Endorsements for the most current add-on requirements as they are subject to change.
