Top-ranked MSEM program at USC expands with online and dual-degree options

The University of South Carolina’s world-renowned Department of Sport and Entertainment Management is expanding opportunities for future leaders in the industry with two dynamic new graduate degree options: a fully online Master of Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) and a cutting-edge dual-degree in business analytics and sport and entertainment management.

The new 100% online delivery option allows unparalleled flexibility for working professionals and aspiring leaders with expert-led courses and industry connections to help students launch or advance their careers. The program’s fully asynchronous format allows participants to study anytime, anywhere, engaging with peers and professors through an advanced online platform that includes discussion forums and multimedia content.

The fully online MSEM is designed for professionals who want the best of both worlds — flexibility and excellence. Students can complete a top-ranked program on their own schedule, while still gaining access to the same expert faculty, industry partnerships, and hands-on opportunities that define our in-person program.

Recognized as one of the top programs worldwide, the MSEM is ranked No. 6 globally in the latest SportBusiness Postgraduate Course Rankings, making it one of the premier destinations for sport and entertainment management education. It combines cutting-edge research, expert faculty and real-world connections to prepare graduates for leadership roles, focusing on areas such as:

  • Marketing and sponsorship strategies
  • Revenue generation and analytics
  • Event and facility management
  • Global entertainment and event leadership

Even with the fully online option, students can engage in exclusive on-campus events such as industry conferences, in-person seminars and networking opportunities.

“The fully online MSEM is designed for professionals who want the best of both worlds — flexibility and excellence. Students can complete a top-ranked program on their own schedule, while still gaining access to the same expert faculty, industry partnerships, and hands-on opportunities that define our in-person program,” says MSEM Program Director Stephen Shapiro.

The Department of Sport and Entertainment Management has also teamed up with the Darla Moore School of Business to offer students a chance to earn two prestigious graduate degrees in under two years.

The combined Master of Science in Business Analytics/Master of Sport and Entertainment Management combined degree equips forward-thinking professionals for data-driven careers, combining advanced business analytics for sport with deep expertise in sport and entertainment management.

Students learn from world-class faculty in both the Darla Moore School of Business and the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management, sharing 12 credit hours between programs. This structure allows students to graduate with both degrees in under two years.

The program offers industry-driven training, focusing on skills such as predictive modeling in sport management, data visualization, revenue optimization, and event operations.

“The combined MSBA/MSEM program is built for the next generation of sport and entertainment leaders — those who can translate data into strategy. By integrating analytics and management, this program equips graduates to drive innovation across the industry,” says Shapiro.

Graduates will be well prepared for high-demand roles in the evolving sport and entertainment analytics field, including:

  • Sport data analyst: Enhance team performance and improve fan engagement with data-driven insights.
  • Business intelligence manager: Lead strategic decision-making through advanced analytics.
  • Revenue optimization strategist in sport and entertainment: Maximize profitability using predictive analytics and market trends.
  • Event and venue operations analyst: Streamline operations and elevate guest experiences.

Students are admitted through a cooperative effort between The Graduate School of the University of South Carolina and the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management. All applicants for the master's program in sport and entertainment management must apply through the Graduate School.
