Faculty / Staff Notes

  • Kevin So has been named a 2019 Breakthrough Star by the University of South Carolina Office of the Vice President for Research.
  • Erica Lake has been named the 2019-2021 president-elect for the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers.
  • HRSM has been recognized by CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) Region III with a Special Merit award in the CASE National Platinum Category of Communications and Marketing. 
  • Daniela Jankovska has been awarded a CTE Innovative Pedagogy grant.
  • Nick Watanabe has been nominated for an Antitrust Writing Award for his paper, “Debunking the NCAA’s myth that amateurism conforms with antitrust law: A legal and statistical analysis,” co-authored with Thomas A. Baker III of the University of Georgia, and Marc Edelman of Baruch College.
  • Marianne Bickle has been named a 2019 Faculty Fellow by UofSC Connect. She will serve as an advocate for integrative learning with Graduation for Leadership Distinction students and UofSC Connect.
  • Karen Edwards has been appointed as a faculty mentor through the Center for Teaching Excellence for the spring semester.
  • Grace Yan, Nick Watanabe and Stephen Shapiro also co-authored, “Unfolding the Twitter scene of the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final: Social media networks and power dynamics,” published in European Sport Management Quarterly.

  • Tara Parker (retailing, 2016) accepted a position as fundraising coordinator at Spurs Sports & Entertainment in San Antonio, Texas.
  • Amanda Saari (hotel, restaurant and tourism management, 2004) started a position as sales executive at Armstrong Relocation in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Samantha Marra (hospitality management, 2013) accepted a position as assistant general manager at Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, N.J.
  • Blake G. Taylor (retailing, 2002) was promoted to executive vice president and Columbia regional executive with Southern First Bank in Columbia, S.C.
  • Brittany Gibson (hospitality management, 2018) accepted a position as assistant event coordinator at The Alotian Club in Roland, Ark.
  • Drew Brawner (hospitality management, 2014) started a new position as COP planner/advisor at Sysco in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Shannon Schoultz (sport and entertainment management, 2012) started a new position as attorney at Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. in Washington, D.C.
  • Abby Feruck (retailing, 2017) started a new position as account executive with the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta, Ga.
  • VeShannah Lovelace (master’s in international hospitality and tourism management, 2018) started a new position as event producer at Ramsey Solutions, A Dave Ramsey Company, in Brentwood, Tenn. 
  • Yanbo Zhu (hospitality management, 2002) started a new position as senior manager, revenue management at Marriott International in Dallas, Texas.
  • Tommy Kelaher (hotel, restaurant and tourism management, 2001), State Farm agent, opened a State Farm agency in Raleigh, N.C.
  • Melissa Ramsey (hotel, restaurant and tourism management, 2010) accepted a position as purchasing manager with Avgol Nonwoven in Mocksville, N.C.
  • Megan Mischler (sport and entertainment management, 2013) started a new position as examining attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Va.
  • Marianne Ballou (sport and entertainment management, 2018) started a new position as coordinator, global partnerships at Ultimate Fighting Championship in Las Vegas, Nev.
  • Angelyse Henry (hospitality management, 2016) was promoted to senior corporate sales manager at Dave & Buster’s Inc.
  • Logan Lunceford (retailing, 2017) was promoted to client services at Ferguson Enterprises in West Palm Beach, Fla.
  • Thank you to Sara Wingate Bako, (retailing, 2005), vice president at Cupio and Cupio Blush, for hosting faculty, staff and students during their visit to the National Retail Federations Big Show in NYC.
