Employee Standards of Ethical Conduct

The University of South Carolina expects members of its community to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the highest standards of excellence and ethical behavior.  As individual members in the University system, our behavior reflects who we are and affects the reputation of the University.  This is reflected in our Carolinian Creed, which represents the aspirational values for the Employee Standards of Ethical Conduct:

We will practice personal and academic integrity;

We will respect the dignity of all persons;

We will respect the rights and property of others;

We will discourage bigotry, while striving to learn from differences in people, ideas and opinions;

We will demonstrate concern for others, their feelings, and their need for the conditions which support their work and development;

Allegiance to these ideals requires us to refrain from and discourage behaviors which threaten the freedom and respect every individual deserves.

The Employee Standards of Ethical Conduct (Standards) [pdf] articulates expectations for the behavior of University employees.  There are many laws, regulations, policies, and ethical standards employees are expected to follow.  The Standards do not replace, limit, or otherwise alter any existing requirements.  All employees are expected to be familiar with, and abide by, the applicable guidance summarized by the Standards.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
