The Faculty Principal for the Entrepreneurship Living-Learning Community will lead an inter-disciplinary program focused on entrepreneurship, innovation and free enterprise with the active support of an assistant faculty principal, business manager, resident mentors, and associates from UofSC Columbia and the community.
Students from all majors and colleges are welcome in this community; students in this community will share a common interest in entrepreneurship and innovation. The community’s purpose is to enhance, both academically and experientially, the university experience of its residents regardless of major.
The Faculty Principal provides the leadership and vision for the living-learning community and is expected to: act as the community’s chief academic administrator; promote intellectual exchange, leadership development, and experiential learning; promote student engagement and success; promote exchange among faculty and students; and interact with the Executive Director of University Housing, Office of the Provost and other university officials. In addition, the Faculty Principal of the Entrepreneurship Community will also serve as Senior Faculty Associate of the McNair Institute of Entrepreneurism and Free Enterprise at the pleasure of the Faculty Director of the McNair Institute. In this capacity, the Faculty Principal will serve as the key liaison of the living-learning community and the Institute.
The ideal candidate for the Faculty Principal will have demonstrated:
- an undergraduate teaching and scholarly record of distinction in any academic area
- a demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship and innovation, broadly defined
- a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and mentoring
- an appreciation of students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse interests
- administrative, organizational and supervisory skills
The Faculty Principal for the Entrepreneurship Community is a half-time position with a three-year appointment subject to renewal with agreement of all parties. As compensation, the Faculty Principal will receive an appropriate salary supplement and release from certain teaching duties. These opportunities and others will be negotiated with the Provost.
