Sustainability

Office of Sustainability

The Office of Sustainability seeks to educate and transform the campus, community and individuals by promoting collaborative relationships among students, faculty, staff, and community members for exploring and implementing the changes required to create a sustainable campus and society. By integrating sustainability into USC’s curriculum development, research, campus and community engagement, operations, and strategic planning functions, the Office of Sustainability advances its overall mission.

Campus Sustainability Report

The Office of Sustainability is proud to present its 2017 campus sustainability report, a data-driven record of sustainability progress and opportunities issued by the university. This year’s report includes sustainability success stories, data informing decision-making, and recommendations for the future in academics, research, human resources, strategic planning, food systems, energy, water, waste, and student engagement.

Academics and Research

The University of South Carolina prioritizes a holistic approach to its degree programs, beyond-the-classroom experiences, and research. Designated by the Carnegie Foundation as an institution of very high research activity, the University of South Carolina student and faculty researchers are tackling some of the biggest hurdles relating to alternative fuels and climate change. A dedicated group of faculty and staff have worked to promote sustainability throughout the academic life of the university. USC incorporates sustainability into the daily lives of our students through the Sustainable Carolina Leadership Program.

The annual fall semester Sustainability Showcase is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to explore and present their interdisciplinary research related to sustainability. Participants and audience members of all backgrounds will be able to learn about sustainability in different disciplines, current research efforts, and discover opportunities to conduct your own research.
