Alexa Dean recently earned national recognition as a recipient of the Region 3 Excellence in Advising — Primary Role Advisor award presented by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).
- Dean has been an academic advisor in School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment (SEOE) since 2021.
- She’s provided academic and transitional support to almost 300 undergraduate students and maintains near 100% student satisfaction.
- Dean will receive the award at the upcoming NACADA Region 3 conference, which includes colleges and universities from Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Why it matters: Dean’s impact extends beyond individual advising.
- She developed the SEOE peer mentorship program, supporting over 20 junior/senior mentors as well as 30 first-year students.
- She also created and teaches a one-credit course in the SEOE that promotes experiential learning and career readiness.
