Alexa Dean wins NACADA Region 3 advising award

Alexa Dean

Alexa Dean recently earned national recognition as a recipient of the Region 3 Excellence in Advising — Primary Role Advisor award presented by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

  • Dean has been an academic advisor in School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment (SEOE) since 2021.
  • She’s provided academic and transitional support to almost 300 undergraduate students and maintains near 100% student satisfaction.
  • Dean will receive the award at the upcoming NACADA Region 3 conference, which includes colleges and universities from Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Why it matters: Dean’s impact extends beyond individual advising.

  • She developed the SEOE peer mentorship program, supporting over 20 junior/senior mentors as well as 30 first-year students.
  • She also created and teaches a one-credit course in the SEOE that promotes experiential learning and career readiness.

What her advisees are saying: "Alexa is honest, attentive, and genuine: all qualities that make her a great mentor.”
