International Education Week

November 13-17

The University of South Carolina’s International Education Week (IEW) will take place November 13-17, 2017.  This annual event is dedicated to promoting cultural awareness while inspiring students to learn more about the many cultures represented at UofSC. The calendar of activities this year includes the annual Greene Street International Bazaar, a film screening on Islamic Art, the 4th Annual World Cup soccer tournament, a panel discussion on the Fulbright Scholars Program led by President Harris Pastides, and more!

The week will begin on November 13, 2017 with the International Bazaar on Greene Street from 112pm. International students exhibit creative displays along with food, music, games, and even dancing to celebrate their cultures. All students, faculty, staff, and visitors are welcome to travel the globe in one afternoon.

Meet at the Columbia Museum of Art on Monday, November 13, for a screening of the documentary Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World (2011), directed by Rob Gardner. Additionally, Steven Naifeh, artist and bestselling co-author of Vincent Van Gogh’s biography, will answer questions and lead a discussion after the screening. Naifeh's work is deeply informed by geometry from Islamic Art traditions and has pieces in the CMA's permanent collection. The event is sponsored by Columbia World Affairs CouncilColumbia Museum of Art, and the Carolina Peace Resource Center.

On Tuesday, November 14, USC President Harris Pastides will moderate a panel discussion on the Fulbright Scholars Program. President Pastides is the chair of the Fulbright CIES Advisory Board, a recipient of the IIE Global Changemaker Award, and a Fulbright senior research fellow. The panel discussion and reception will be from 2:30-4:30pm in the Gressette Room in Harper College. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to hear from five Fulbright scholars and award recipients as they share their experiences and why they applied for the Fulbright to teach, research, or study abroad. Attendees are requested to RSVP by November 8. The event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, International Support for Faculty and Staff, Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs, and International Student Services.
