The Faculty Principal for the Capstone Scholars will lead an inter-disciplinary community program with the active support of associate faculty principals, graduate students, student residents, resident mentors, faculty associates, and associates from the community. Students in this community will come from a broad range of majors and are high-performing students who have received a USC scholarship. The community’s purpose is to enhance, both academically and experientially, the university experience of its residents.
The Faculty Principal provides the leadership and vision for the living-learning community and is expected to: act as the community’s chief academic administrator; promote intellectual exchange, leadership development, cultural fluency, and experiential learning; promote student engagement and success; promote exchange among faculty and students; and interact with the Director of Housing, Office of the Provost and other university officials. In addition, the Capstone Faculty Principal plays an important role in recruitment activities such as open houses, Admitted Students Days, meeting with prospective students and their parents, etc.
The ideal candidate for the Faculty Principal will have demonstrated:
- an undergraduate teaching and scholarly record of distinction in any academic area
- a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and mentoring
- an appreciation of students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse interests
- administrative, organizational and supervisory skills
The Faculty Principal for Capstone Scholar program is a half-time position with a three-year appointment subject to renewal with agreement of all parties. As compensation, the Faculty Principal will receive an appropriate salary supplement and release from certain teaching duties. These opportunities and others will be negotiated with the Provost.
