  • Khalid Ballouli was elected president of the Sport Marketing Association.
  • Grace Yan and Nick Watanabe’s article, “Examining IRA Bots in the NFL Anthem Protest: Political Agendas and Practices of Digital Gatekeeping,” was published in Communication & Sport.
  • Mark Rosenbaum, Kathy (Kawon) Kim and Joohyung Park’s article, “Improving well-being via adaptive reuse: Transformative repurposed service organizations,” was published in The Service Industries Journal.
  • Kelly Evans successfully defended her dissertation, earning her Ph.D. in sport and entertainment management, her third degree from South Carolina.
  • Sport and entertainment management Ph.D. student Misun Won was elected as a student representative to the Korean American Association for Sport Management Board of Directors.
  • Congratulations to the Ph.D. students who were nominated for this year’s HRSM teacher of the year award: Rui Qi, Jing Li, Dan Jin, Fei Gao, Evelyn Jara-Pazmino, Jacqueline Hague, Walker Ross, Timothy Koba and Victor D. Kidd.

  • JaRonna Singleton (B.S. Hospitality, 2017) started a new position as manager of restaurants and bars at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa.
  • Sarah Brinks (B.S. Hospitality Management, 2017) has started a new position as sales account consultant for TopGolf in Greenville, S.C.
  • Kam Watts (B.S. Sport and Entertainment Management, 2019) started a new position as Event Operations Manager at South Carolina Athletics.
  • Lauren Martin (B.S. Retailing, 2018) started a new position as assistant director of housekeeping at The Omni Homestead in Hotsprings, Va.
  • Abby Andrews (B.S. Hospitality, 2015) started a new position as assistant general manager at ilili Restaurant in New York City.
  • Rachel Westfall (B.S. Sport and Entertainment Management, 2016) started a new position as revenue manager at Marriott International.
  • Emily Wingard (B.S Sport and Entertainment Management, 2017) started as an NFL Cheerleader with the Carolina Panthers.
  • Matthew Jinnette (B.S. Retailing, 2018) started a new position as assistant food/beverage manager at Lexington County Blowfish Baseball.
  • Willie Lloyd Harriford IV (B.S. Hotel/Tourism, 2016) started a new position as the South Carolina political director for Joe Biden 2020.
  • Len Wall (B.S. Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management, 2006) started a new position as restaurant manager at The Grand on Main.
  • Tim Marston (B.S. Sport and Entertainment Management, 2013) was promoted as account manager, Allstate Powersports at Octagon.
  • Nicole Kourounis (B.S. Hospitality, 2013) started a new position as sales executive at Marriott International.
  • Mark Driscoll (B.S. Sport and Entertainment Management, 2009) was promoted to senior director of Strategic Ticketing & Sales Analytics at University of Richmond.
  • Andy Loeser (B.S. Retailing, 2015) was promoted to associate merchant at Dollar General headquarters in Chesapeake, Virginia. 
  • Wade Leaphart (B.S. Retailing, 1995) started a new position as community marketing manager for Dick's Sporting Goods in Charlotte.
