Genetic Counselor Assistant

Are you a University of South Carolina undergraduate student seeking exposure to genetic counseling?

Please note that due to the pandemic, we have suspended the fall GCA opportunity until further notice. We always welcome UofSC students to contact us with their interest in genetic counseling, and would be happy to keep your name on file should we open the GCA position.

If you’re serious about being a genetic counselor, you are already aware that sustained experience in a medical genetics setting is a plus when you apply for graduate school. We would like to engage a promising undergraduate student as a part-time genetic counselor assistant. The selected candidate would assist genetic counselor faculty with educational and administrative projects in a 10 to 15 hour per week position.

How to Apply

Applicants should submit a cover letter expressing their interest, future education plans, a current resume/curriculum vitae, their most recent undergraduate transcript plus two letters of recommendation (one of which must be written by a USC professor). Please scan your materials and submit them via email to genetics@uscmed.sc.edu

  • Apply for Spring Semester 2021 before December 1
  • Apply for Summer Session 2021 before May 1
  • Apply for Fall Semester 2021 before August 1

Selected applicants will be contacted for interview. One qualified genetic counselor assistant will be selected per semester.\

You may be able to incorporate your Genetic Counselor Assistant experience in your USC Graduate with Leadership Distinction requirements!

Be sure to connect with the USC club designed with you mind: The Society for Pre-Health Professionals in Genetics.
