Our Student Affairs and Career Advising team provides a number of events and opportunities for our M.D. students throughout their time at the School of Medicine Columbia. These events help to provide key information, while also celebrating their accomplishments and fostering a community within the M.D. program.
During orientation, medical students will have the opportunity to connect with other students and discover on-campus, local, and national resources and organizations. To ensure a seamless transition to the School of Medicine and the University of South Carolina, students will be informed about relevant policies and procedures along with the academic expectations of medical school.
Family and friends of medical students are invited to participate in “A Day in the Life of Your Student” and visit campus. We have a variety of student and faculty speakers to engage guests for the day.
The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage that takes place during the fall of the medical students' first year of education. It serves to welcome students to health care and elevate the value of humanism as a core value, while providing a strong emphasis on compassion in combination with scientific excellence.
Each year in March our fourth-year medical students discover where they will attend residency training. Our Match Day ceremony brings together our students with family and friends to celebrate this monumental step in their medical education.
The Military Promotion, Awards, and Hooding Ceremony occurs the day before Commencement exercises. These ceremonies are the culmination of the time in medical school for our graduating students. Family and friends are invited to share in this special time with their soon-to-be doctors.
Throughout the academic year, the M.D. Program Student Affairs team will host numerous events to provide our students with a lasting and enjoyable experience during their time at the School of Medicine Columbia.
