Summer Rotations

Summer rotation allows you to take on the role of genetic counselor at a comfortable pace and provides deep appreciation for the clinical, research and administrative capacities of the genetic counselor. Students often choose unique settings which allow them to experience a new area of the country or even travel to another country.

My summer rotation provided an exciting clinical experience working in a healthcare system in a part of the country that I had never been before. The experiences I had in Dallas, Texas, proved to be invaluable throughout my training and growth as a genetic counselor.

Ashton Wolfe (2018)

During the summer between your first and second year, you'll have the opportunitiy to experience six weeks of full-time clinical work at a site either in the US or interntationally. Our students have used these opportunities to gain contacts in the industry, earn full-time positions upon graduation and find a city they could see themselves both living in and working in.
Your six-week summer rotation will count towards two credits of the overall, 54-hour curriculum and can be found in the course catalog as HGEN 750. Your rotation will take place following completion of the two-credit May session at the very conclusion of your first Spring Semester on campus.
