B.S., Accountancy, Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Mich.
Daniel J. Williams serves as an instructor for the Department of Retailing in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management at the University of South Carolina. Prior to joining the faculty at USC in fall 2017, Williams served on the faculty at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va., as an accounting professor for 17 years. There he taught courses in accounting principles, intermediate accounting, income taxes, and auditing.
Prior to taking a position in academia, Williams had nearly four years of experience working for commissioner of the revenue's offices in both the city of Chesapeake, Va., and the city of Norfolk, Va. He has held positions as both a business tax auditor and audit supervisor. While serving in these positions, he conducted audits of business licenses, personal property taxes, meal, lodging and admission taxes.
Soon after graduating from college and before working for the commissioner of the revenue, Williams worked for several years in public accounting CPA firms in both South Bend, Ind., and Virginia Beach, Va. He held positions as both staff accountant and senior accountant while preparing business and individual tax returns and performing multiple audit, review, and compilation services.
While a student at Ferris State University, Williams was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. Later while serving as a faculty member at Shepherd University, he was inducted into Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity.
Williams currently maintains an active certified public accountant (CPA) license in both Virginia and West Virginia and participates in more than 40 hours of continuing professional education every calendar year.
