STEAM Education Add-On Endorsement

This South Carolina endorsement prepares educators to implement integrated curriculum in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM). The four courses required for the endorsement in STEAM Education have been developed to train teachers in effective ways to integrate content, teach productive collaboration skills, and use inquiry-based approaches to solve problems.

The following University of South Carolina courses meet the current South Carolina add-on requirements for the STEAM Education endorsement:

STEAM Instructional Design (3 credit hours)

EDTE 751 - STEAM Instructional Design (3)

STEAM Instructional Methods (3 credit hours)

EDTE 752 - STEAM Instructional Methods (3)

STEAM Assessment (3 credit hours)

EDTE 753 - STEAM Assessment (3)

STEAM Implementation (3 credit hours)

EDTE 754 - STEAM Enacted and Evaluated (3)

Practicum (30 hours - may be embedded in coursework listed)

EDTE 754 (listed above) includes practicum experience

In order to gain the add-on endorsement in STEAM Education, in addition to completing the above coursework with a grade of C or better, you must have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher;
  2. Initial, Professional, or Alternative Route certificate at the early childhood, elementary, middle, secondary, or PK–12 level; 

 

Add-on endorsement is determined and granted by the South Carolina Department of Education. We recommend that you contact the South Carolina Department of Education prior to beginning any coursework to determine steps to add-on endorsement areas. Refer to the South Carolina Guidelines and Requirements for Adding Certification Fields and Endorsements for the most current add-on requirements as they are subject to change.
