Early Childhood (ages 3-5) Special Education Add-On

The following University of South Carolina courses meet the current South Carolina add-on requirements for Special Education: Early Childhood (Ages 3-5)

Assessment of Young Children with Disabilities  EDEX 646 - Advanced Procedures for Assessment in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) (3) 
Procedures for Working with Young Children with Disabilities   EDEX 630 - Educational Procedures for Early Childhood Special Education (3)

In order to gain the Special Education: Early Childhood (Ages 3-5) add-on certification, in addition to completing the above course work with a grade of C or better, teachers must have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher;
  2. Initial or Professional certificate at the early childhood, elementary, middle, secondary, or PK–12 level;
  3. Minimum qualifying score(s) on the content area examination(s) required by the SBE for the content area; and

Add-on endorsement is determined and granted by the South Carolina Department of Education. Prior to beginning coursework, it is recommended that teachers contact the South Carolina Department of Education to determine steps to add-on endorsement areas. Refer to the South Carolina Guidelines and Requirements for Adding Certification Fields and Endorsements for the most current add-on requirements as they are subject to change.
