Biography

Dom Palumbo joined the USC School of Medicine Columbia staff in May of 2023 following a seven-year career in the college athletics industry as a Sports Information Director. Palumbo's most recent stop prior to moving to Columbia was as the Associate Director of Media Relations at UNC Charlotte where he led all publicity efforts for Charlotte's Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer and Men's Tennis programs. Palumbo ran the program's main social media accounts, was head of student worker recruitment and retention and helped create the strategy around the athletic department's social media as a whole.

Before his time in the Queen City, Palumbo was a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee where he was the secondary PR contact for Tennessee's nationally ranked men's basketball program in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Along with his role with men's hoops, Palumbo was the head of feature content for the department, publishing over 40 human interests stories during his two years in K-Town, while also working with Tennessee men's tennis, softball, volleyball and women's golf. On top of his work in the athletic department, Palumbo also obtained his Master's Degree in Recreation and Sport Management and completed a published Master's Thesis titled, The Role of Athletic Trainers in the Mental Health Care of Student Athletes.

The Manassas, Virginia native completed his Bachelor's Degree in Sport and Recreation Management at James Madison University where he worked in JMU's Athletic Communications office as a student SID, helping to cover JMU's football, men's and women's basketball, softball and women's tennis programs, covering seven different conference championships and two JMU football runs to the FCS National Title game.

An avid sports fan, Palumbo also enjoys his time as an adjunct professor at James Madison, mental health research, golfing and the great human past time of distance running. Palumbo resides in Lexington, South Carolina with his wife Rachel, cat Chess and puppy, Shenandoah.
