Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Q&A with Rosanne Prim '16

Why did you choose to attend the University of South Carolina School of Law?

I chose the USC Law largely due to my family's long history of attending the school. Upon visiting, the friendly atmosphere amongst the students, faculty, and administration was immediately apparent. While I no longer reside in South Carolina, I remain passionate about the school and the success of its graduates.

Where has your job taken you?

I am now located in Boston, Massachusetts with my husband and two dogs.

What is the most valuable information you learned while you were in law school?

There's a lot to choose from, but I'd have to say I learned to always be able to expand upon any point I ever made, whether it was in class, proposing a novel idea in the business world, or when engaging in persuasive writing.

What event or professional experience has given you the most satisfaction?

Founding my own company, Clean Plate Law, LLC, in order to provide regulatory consulting services for food and drug entrepreneurs has by far given me the most satisfaction. Food and drug law is a rapidly expanding field, and was relatively unheard of when I began law school. I'm honored to assist people who endeavor make the food and medical world more transparent and equitable to all populations.

What information would you give a graduating class member seeking your advice on a legal career?

I would say to be brave and be willing to think outside of the box. If there's something you are passionate about, figure out a way to forge your own path. There are so many people out there willing to assist, you just have to reach out! A great mentor of mine once advised that I move away from the "yes, but" mindset and instead focus on the "yes, AND" mindset. This has stuck with me throughout my legal career and I hope it motivates a graduating student to think of broad range of possibilities ahead of them.

What do you do for fun?

I am an avid runner (shout out to the Heartbreak Run club in Boston that got me through bar prep during a pandemic) and skier. My husband and I also enjoy tackling all sorts of recipes, many of which take multiple days to complete! Most importantly, though, is spending time with my two beloved dogs and taking them on as many adventures as possible.
