Nominations

Nominations for the 2023 Compleat Lawyer Awards are now closed.

Purpose

The Compleat Lawyer Awards were established in 1992 by the University of South Carolina Law School Alumni Council to recognize alumni for outstanding civic and professional accomplishments. Each year the Council recognizes up to nine outstanding alumni at the Compleat Lawyer Awards Dinner. Nominees are individuals who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standard of professional competence, ethics and integrity.

Eligibility Criteria

The nominee must be an alumnus/alumna of the University of South Carolina School of Law. The nominee may not be an active or retired justice or  judge.

Award Category

Platinum Award – Platinum Recipients are individuals who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standard of professional competence, ethics and integrity. Platinum recipients have been in practice 31 years or more.

Gold Award – Gold Recipients are individuals who have made significant contributions  to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standard of professional competence, ethics and integrity. Gold recipients have been in practice 16–30 years.

Silver Award – Silver Recipients are individuals who have made significant contributions  to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standard of professional competence, ethics and integrity. Silver recipients have been in practice 15 years or less.

Nomination Packet

The nominator is responsible for collecting and submitting all required material for the nomination. The Selection Committee will not consider an incomplete nomination package. The nomination deadline is November 11, 2022.

Each nomination packet must include the following:

  1. Nominee Information Application: Please complete the Award Nomination and Reference Form. (Note any additional materials will not be considered in lieu of required nomination form.)
  2. References: The nomination packet must include three letters of recommendation. Each letter is limited to one or two pages in length. Please note that the nominator's letter of recommendation serves as one recommendation.
  3. Digital Head Shot (for publicity and program). Please provide a high resolution digital image (minimum 1000 pixels wide) in JPEG format.

Nominations are kept on file and will be included in the review process for three additional years. Updates and/or supplements to their prior application are welcome.
