Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Donor Q&A with Emily and Matt Zackon

As a couple, why did you invest in the University of South Carolina School of Law at the Young Alumni Dean’s Circle Society level?

We are both double Carolina Grads (Emily – B.A. 2012, Law 2016) (Matt – Law 2017, IMBA 2017), and we felt it was important to contribute back to the School of Law. We met in law school, and we wanted to give back to the school that impacted us so much, both personally and professionally.

What is a specific memory of law school that you reflect often on that makes you grateful for the education you received at South Carolina Law?

Our fondest memory is attending the London Maymester in May of 2014. Professor McWilliams and Professor Samuels taught a Transnational Dispute resolution class in May, that is held in conjunction with the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. We were so fortunate to be able to study on the Gray’s Inn grounds and meet English students studying to become barristers and professors. Dinners in the great hall, a boat ride and tour of Greenwich, and weekend trips abroad made the experience even more memorable.

What would you say to other young alumni to express the importance of giving back?

The University of South Carolina School of Law is blessed with a state-of-the art facility and nationally recognized faculty. To have an opportunity to assist the school in recruiting the top talent from across the state and nationally by offering more scholarships is a wonderful way to support the future legal community.
