Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Orientation for the Class of 2020 begins Thursday, Aug. 17

The University of South Carolina School of Law is excited to welcome the Law Class of 2020. New Student Orientation is from Thursday, Aug. 17 to Tuesday, Aug. 22.

The School of Law’s New Student Orientation program is designed to introduce students to the legal profession, familiarize them with the expectations of the academic and professional community, and equip them with the study skills to "hit the ground running" as classes begin.

Students will become familiar with the law school with an introduction to Dean Robert Wilcox and the faculty. A tour of the new building and a review of the resources and technology available will ensure a smooth transition.

Over the weekend, students will be free to explore Columbia and the rest of the university. Orientation falls on the weekend before the historic Total Eclipse. Columbia has been named the best place on the East Coast to watch the eclipse. The city will host several events to celebrate the sight of a lifetime. Students will also be dismissed early on Monday to watch the event.

Before beginning their law education, students will take the tradition Oath of Professionalism. A reception will be held after for family and friends to mingle with School of Law faculty and alumni.

Classes begin on Thursday, August 24. Check here  http://first.uofsclaw.org/ for assignments for your first class.
