Bio

Mary Anne Fitzpatrick joined the University of South Carolina after a distinguished faculty and administrative career at the University of Wisconsin Madison.  She has served the University of South Carolina as the founding Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the senior provost for special academic initiatives, the vice president of the USC system and the Chancellor of the University of South Carolina Upstate.  She is the Carolina Educational Foundation Distinguished Professor and an internationally known expert on communication.   She is a Fellow of the: International Communication Association; National Communication Association; International Society for the Study of Personal and Social Relationships; and American Association for the Advancement of Science in recognition of her scholarly accomplishments. Her colleagues have elected her as the President of the International Communication Association and the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences. She has served on a number of philanthropy boards and recently completed a term as the Treasurer of the Girl Scouts Mountains to Midlands Association.  Currently, she is serving as the (interim) Dean of the Faculty and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.  Throughout her career, Fitzpatrick has been dedicated to transforming the lives of students and improving the world they will inhabit by creating   and  strengthening  programs of academic excellence.
