We are extremely pleased that the USC School of Medicine - Columbia in conjunction with Palmetto Health Richland once again will offer the Finding Your Future shadowing program to prospective medical students in South Carolina. If you are chosen from a select group of individuals, it is our hope that your time spent with us will fuel more of your fire to attend USC School of Medicine - Columbia and become a practicing physician.
The program is a four week shadowing experience for competitive rising senior pre-med students from selected from several state colleges and universities. Students, who do not already have an acceptance to another medical school and who plan to apply to medical school for entering the 2019 class, are nominated by their pre-med advisors for participation in the program. Finding Your Future provides meaningful “medical experience” which will help support their AMCAS application.
Paramount to the program is your ability to participate in all of the dates for training and shadowing. Also of great importance, is your ability to clearly understand and adhere to the rules and regulations required to "shadow" on the USC/Palmetto Health Campus.
From Monday through Friday, June 4 – June 29, 2018, students will rotate on a weekly basis among the following clinical areas: Family and Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery. Each participant must complete HIPAA security training and other documentation required by the School of Medicine and Palmetto Health prior to beginning the program. Please note that students selected for the program must be able to commit to the entire four weeks without exception. There is no cost to the student for participation, however no college credit is given. Students are also responsible for their own housing.
