Biography
Dr. Carter began his career in medical education with the Atlanta Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. He returned to the USC School of Medicine in 2005 as the Assistant Residency Director. He subsequently served as Residency Director from 2007 to 2017. He then served as the first Director of the South Carolina Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare and Associate Designated Official for Graduate Medicine Education at Palmetto Health. Since 2020 he has served the department’s Vice Chair for Academics, the School of Medicine’s Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, and the GME Executive and DIO for Prisma Health Midlands.
In addition to graduate medical education, he has been involved throughout his career in peer education and professional development for Family Medicine specialists. He serves as the Chair of the Adult Medicine course for the American Academy of Family Physicians. He’s a recipient of the SC AHEC Halford Award for Leadership in Humane Education and the School of Medicine Dean’s Leadership Award.
