Sara Cano Zuleta ('19 political science and government, '24 law) was a baby when her family journeyed from conflict-ridden Medellin, Colombia, to the United States. Growing up in Greenville, South Carolina, she has witnessed frequent confusion among her family and other immigrants about processes to gain legal status in their new homeland. She longed for the ability to help.
Zuleta found her path through the USC Rice School of Law, where she was active in the Pro Bono Program and Latinx Law Student Association. Since graduating in May, she has moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to work with the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project as an Immigrant Justice Corps Fellow.
“I always knew that being a lawyer was what I wanted to do, and I’ve always been interested in immigration law,” Zuleta says. “I loved my three years in law school. The Fellowship allows you choices, and I prioritized being close to the border.”
