South Carolina Honors College

Morgan McCullen

Ask me about… internships, changing life plans, Greek life, professional fraternities, club sports, and anything that comes to mind!

Hi! My name is Morgan and I’m majoring in Marketing and Management at the Darla Moore School of Business. I’m from the Philadelphia suburbs, but my deep hatred for the cold has brought me to my new home here in Columbia, South Carolina. On campus, I’m a member of a social sorority, professional fraternity, and play on the club volleyball team! My whole life I’ve loved being involved in a million things at once and that hasn’t changed since coming to USC (and probably never will). While I haven’t yet accepted that I can’t be in college forever, I hope to pursue a career in Social Media Marketing or HR Recruiting after graduation. As you could probably guess, I really like connecting with other people!

My advice for prospective students: Make this decision yours (sorry Mom and Dad)! Don’t worry about everyone else’s opinion, because at the end of the day, you’re the one that actually has to go to college. If I had listened to my parents, I would be at a much different school and probably a whole lot less happy.

My advice for current students: Do as much as you can while still getting a full night of sleep. Getting involved on campus has shaped my entire experience and made me love this school even more than I could’ve ever imagined. No matter what it is, find something you’re passionate about and pursue it. Chances are, someone else is passionate about the same thing as you!

My favorite thing about the Honors College: The faculty!! Every professor, advisor, or mentor I have met in Honors have been the kindest, most understanding people. Being at a school of 30,000 students, I never thought I would find professors who cared to remember my name, let alone get to know me and really invest their time in my education. The Honors faculty is truly like no other and made the transition into college so seamless.

My reason for choosing the SCHC: As excited as I was to move nine hours away to a huge school where no one knew me, I was honestly terrified that I would drown in huge lectures. Back in high school, I was always the girl that would always have her hand raised to give an answer or ask a question, and I knew I needed a similar environment at college. I liked that the South Carolina Honors College had average class sizes similar to my high school classes, despite being at such a large university!

My favorite things: Columbia sunsets, warm days on the Horseshoe, live music, Saturdays in Williams-Brice Stadium, and leisurely strolls at the Riverwalk.

My hobbies: I looove writing, especially about my life and my thoughts! Sharing my writing with others is definitely one of my love languages.

Skill I’d like to master: When I was younger, my dad said he would give me $5 if I could learn to juggle, so I’m still working on that. Hopefully I’ll get it one day.

Favorite movie: Any cheesy rom-com, especially from the 90s/2000s. How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Can’t Buy Me Love, and Flipped are some of my favorites!

My hero(es): Definitely my mom and my grandma. We always joke that our family is a “matriarchy” because of all the strong women in it, especially my mom and my grandma. They both raised me to dream big and never underestimate my power.

My life goal: Leave a positive impact on as many people as possible! I spend a lot of time thinking about the legacy I want to have and the people I hope to surround myself with.

My escape: Spending time with the people I love. I believe the best friends in life are the ones that feel like a break from the chaos rather than the chaos.
