A Message from the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation

It is a privilege to be serving the College of Education in the role of Associate Dean for Research and Innovation. I began this appointment in June 2018, formerly serving as Chair of the Department of Physical Education from July 2017 to May 2018 and as a faculty member in that department starting in 2006. The opportunity to work with our Dean and other college leadership, as well as with leaders across campus, to raise our college to its next level of excellence in research is one that I embrace enthusiastically.

My vision for the college is for our faculty, staff, and students to be nationally competitive in all metrics used to evaluate research performance and assign rankings to universities. This means building the resources needed to support levels of research input (e.g., grant funding) and output (e.g., publications) that compare favorably to our peer and peer aspirant colleges/schools of education around the country. As a Carnegie-designed R1 institution (doctoral granting university of highest research activity), our university offers a great deal of support for research development. There is a thriving culture of research university-wide, and the College of Education is a key contributor to this culture. Our research intersects with the priorities of numerous units at UofSC, and our Education faculty collaborate with faculty in public health, social work, nursing, psychology, and other fields.

We have so much to be proud of from a research perspective in the College of Education. The number of faculty and staff grant submissions and awards are on the rise, faculty are increasingly publishing their work in journals with higher impact factors, and our doctoral programs continue to embody more and more rigorous approaches that align with the expectations of an R1 institution. I encourage you to learn more about our many outstanding research accomplishments by visiting our Research Showcase page on this website. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to me to let me know how I, and my colleagues in the Office of Research and Innovation, can assist you in your research.

Best wishes,

Collin A. Webster, Ph.D.
Associate Dean for Research and Innovation
