Biography

Dr. Scott Lamar has been on the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine since 1996. Before his appointment to the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, he served on the faculty of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, Tennessee. In 2005, Dr. Lamar completed a geriatric fellowship with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine/ Palmetto Health Richland. He later specialized in palliative and hospice medicine.

Over the years Dr. Lamar has participated in a number of medical relief and outreach teams in Central America. He is also a volunteer physician and clinical preceptor and the Columbia Free Medical Clinic. In 2002 his efforts were recognized with the School of Medicine's Humanism in Medicine Award.

A graduate of Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina, with a bachelor of science in zoology, Dr. Lamar earned a doctor of medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed a family medicine resident with Palmetto Health Richland. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
