Les Hall, M.D., serves as dean of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia and chief academic officer of Prisma Health Midlands.
Dr. Hall joined the USC School of Medicine in February 2015. As dean, he leads the education, research, and clinical missions at the School of Medicine, including all academic and research programs, and supports the growth of undergraduate medical education. He is the seventh permanent dean to lead the School of Medicine since the school matriculated its first class in 1977.
Dr. Hall also serves as chief academic officer for Prisma Health Midlands, clinical partner with the School of Medicine, overseeing the training of the school’s medical students and residents in more than 24 residency and fellowship programs.
Dr. Hall received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and completed an internal medicine residency at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He previously served as a member of the University of Missouri-Columbia faculty, holding several leadership positions including interim dean and senior associate dean for Clinical Affairs at the MU School of Medicine and chief medical officer of MU Health Care.
Dr. Hall’s academic work has focused on advancing interprofessional education, especially in the areas of quality improvement, patient safety and teamwork. He co-led a national initiative funded by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation to develop faculty to facilitate interprofessional team-based care.
