Our Place in the University
The College of Arts and Sciences is home to academic disciplines that span the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. It is also home to some 8,000 students and more than 450 tenure-track faculty. As the largest and most academically diverse college at the University of South Carolina, we're the intellectual, artistic, scientific and instructional core of the university.
Incubator for Curiosity and Creativity
We teach nearly half of all courses at the university, and offer over 100 majors and nearly 60 minors to undergraduates, along with approximately 60 graduate and professional degrees. An essential component of the Carolina Core, the arts and sciences are also powerful incubators of human curiosity and creativity for the entire university.
Your Future Beyond Graduation
In the classroom and beyond—through study abroad, lecture series, internships, research opportunities and more—we open doors to the world, preparing you to lead in our increasingly globalized society. Our graduates go on to make up a critical element of the social, economic, educational, political and religious fabric of our state, region and nation. In this way, the College of Arts and Sciences has a lasting impact, directly or indirectly, on millions of lives.
A Deeper Look with Centers and Institutes
Our college is home to over 30 centers and institutes that focus on everything from brain imaging to Southern studies. When you get involved here, you have the opportunity to conduct research, pursue a minor and explore a topic more deeply.
