Arnold School faculty members to serve as principal investigators on 13 projects supported by 2020 ASPIRE grants

May 18, 2020 | Erin Bluvas, bluvase@sc.edu

Faculty members from across the Arnold School received funding through the Office of the Vice President for Research’s Advanced Support for Innovative Research Excellence (ASPIRE) program. The internal, competitive program has invested $18.2 million in faculty projects over the past eight years, yielding a return of about $189.6 million. This year, the program received 173 proposals from UofSC faculty researchers, awarding grants to 80 of the proposals after evaluation by faculty review committees.

ASPIRE awards are designed to enhance UofSC’s research capabilities. They do so by investing in faculty by helping them begin promising new research endeavors for later external funding (ASPIRE I: Innovation), build up a collaborative, interdisciplinary research project (ASPIRE II: Integration), and/or invest in the University’s research infrastructure (ASPIRE III: Infrastructure).

“It is amazing to see the innovation of our faculty researchers in the ASPIRE proposals each year,” said USC Vice President for Research,  Prakash Nagarkatti. “These deserving researchers will maximize this investment by developing new lines of research, building scholarly collaborations across disciplines and bringing new equipment to campus that current and future researchers will use to generate their own discoveries.”

The 2020 ASPIRE recipients include the following Arnold School faculty members:
