Athletic Training

If you would like to apply to the Professional Athletic Training Master of Science (MS) degree, you will need to submit your application through the Athletic Training Centralized Application Service (ATCAS). Post-Professional Athletic Training Master of Science (MS) applicants will need to apply through the USC Graduate School.

Professional Athletic Training MS applicants must apply through the Athletic Training Centralized Application Service (ATCAS). Please visit ATCAS for further details. Post-Professional Athletic Training Master of Science applicants will apply through the USC Graduate School.

Athletic Training MS (Professional) 

Special Note: The Master of Science in Athletic Training at the University of South Carolina is a Professional Athletic Training Program to prepare students to sit for the Board of Certification exam and become a certified athletic trainer.

Admission Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited university prior to beginning the program
  • Minimum of 50 hours of observation of a certified athletic trainer
    • Observation hours within the University of South Carolina Athletic Department are excluded
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 from the undergraduate degree
  • Satisfactory GRE scores
  • For international applicants, a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 80 internet-based, 230 computer-based, or 570 paper-based - or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Course Type 2 exam - minimum overall band score of 6.5.  This requirement may be waived for applicants that have earned a prior degree from a US institution.

  • Documentation of clinical hours (minimum of 50) must be verifiable on the official program application
  • USC AT Program Technical Standards Form
  • Official transcripts from all schools or colleges previously attended
  • Non-US institution transcripts must be verified by World Education Services (WES) or equivalent evaluation service.  Please submit a comprehensive course-by-course evaluation (WES ICAP)
  • GRE scores

Advanced Athletic Training MS (Post-Professional)  

Special Note:  First review of applications for graduate assistantships will start November 1, 2018; however if you miss the first review deadline we have a rolling deadline until all assistantships are full. Apply early to make the initial review.

Admission Requirements

  • Eligible applicants must possess an undergraduate degree with a major in athletic training from a CAATE accredited program
  • Grade point average of 3.00/4.00 or higher
  • Satisfactory GRE scores (50th percentile or above)
  • For international applicants, a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 80 internet-based, 230 computer-based, or 570 paper-based - or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Course Type 2 exam - minimum overall band score of 6.5.  This requirement may be waived for applicants that have earned
